The Forschungszentrum Material- und Prozesstechnik

On February 10, 2017, the Forschungszentrum Material- und Prozesstechnik was founded at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da). The foundation was carried out from the university's own research structure funding (FSF) and aims at the internal networking of R&D activities. The necessary financial resources were provided by the state of Hessen from the innovation and structural development budget (target agreement 2016-2020).

The Forschungszentrum Material- und Prozesstechnik is a group of researchers from several departments and scientific fields who together aim to answer urgent current questions on resource efficiency. For this purpose, on the one hand, processing steps from different industries as well as interfaces between different fields of application and industries are considered. Examples include additive manufacturing, cold forming, chemical reaction technology in microreactors, biopolymer processing and the production of fiber composite materials. On the other hand, the morphology and property changes of materials and raw materials during processing in these processes and chemical reactions are analyzed, modeled and mapped in simulations. The Forschungszentrum Material- und Prozesstechnik thus pursues two main areas: "Property optimization in multi-material systems" and "Novel production processes".

The aim of the Forschungszentrums Material- und Prozesstechnik is to realize efficiency improvements in the investigated processes as well as to develop novel processes. By understanding the dependence of product properties on the manufacturing process and the resulting prediction of properties using simulation methods, the potential of materials and raw materials in terms of efficiency in subsequent applications is to be increased.
